Associate Professor Leon Lai graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Melbourne in 2005. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) for his work that focused on the surgical management and innovations in the treatment of brain aneurysms in 2015.

His research has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and editorials. He has received in excess of $280,000 in research grant funding and collaborated nationally in 3 multi-centre studies (1 NHMRC funded). Associate Professor Lai became a lead investigator in 3 institutional studies, and participated in 2 major grant applications (NHMRC, and ARC Linkage).  With a commitment to providing a professional academic practice, Associate Professor Lai actively engages in clinical research that pushes the envelope in general, cerebrovascular and skull base neurosurgery. 

Associate Professor Lai is the Editor in chief for his upcoming book on Neurosurgical Diseases - An Evidence-Based Approach to Guide Practice (contributed by some of the world’s leading neurosurgeons), and is regularly invited to be a keynote speaker at prestigious national and international conferences in his research areas.
